We promote sustainable and responsible tourism!

From 5elemenTravel we want to give every traveller the opportunity to get involved and support the country they will discover. In the case of Iceland, we want to encourage and support the CarbFix project, where they work to minimalize the climate change and study how to reduce the effects of CO2 emissions, capturing greenhouse gases in rocks. Travelling with us you will also offset a big part of the trip’s (flight and car) carbon emission through a donation for tree planting. In addition, from each traveller, a part will be donated to the Icelandic rescue team of volunteers ICE-SAR and their projects, e.g. https://safetravel.is/.

Apart from the projects, while executing the trips, we are also:

  • working with local suppliers and guides
  • respecting the driving rules, especially on the delicate interior part
  • informing our travellers and respecting the borders set in the touristic areas
  • never working with single-use tools and materials
  • drinking Icelandic, completely healthy, tap or stream water, and reducing the use of plastic

Our guide will welcome you and pick you up at Keflavík airport. As the flights arrive at night, the guide will take you to the accommodation so that you can rest and get ready for the journey that awaits us.

The first day of contact with the country’s nature. After a small meeting with our guide, you will be ready to visit one of the largest geothermal plants on the planet. A good way to start understanding the way this country works and its geological peculiarities. We will also see the pioneering project in the world, which we support – capturing CO2 from the air and turning it into rocks. With our 4×4 vehicles, we’ll head to our first excursion with thermal waters included, and that’s how our adventure trip will start. Dinner at the accommodation.

On the second day, we will enter with our 4×4 vehicles to the area of Þórsmörk – the valley of Thor (Þór), visiting some hidden waterfalls on the way. Once there we will take our first excursion up the top of Valahnúkur mountain and visit magical forests of the valley; a perfect path for those who like to combine hiking and photography. Accommodation and dinner in Þórsmörk.

Our next day will pass along the south coast, visiting famous landmarks such as waterfalls, the Black Beach and its trolls, and we’ll end up entering inland again, enjoying the green valleys born under the feet of the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Accommodation and dinner in wooden huts of Þakgil.

Before leaving the spectacular valley of Þakgil, we’ll take the opportunity to go on an excursion and admire its hidden secrets. We will continue on our way to the east of Iceland to visit the Fjaðrárgljúfur canyon, the Skaftafell National Park and the glacial tongues of the immense Vatnajökull. We will stay two nights in the small village of Hof, at the foot of the glacier and the highest mountain in Iceland. We will visit the Múlagljúfur canyon and we will walk up to the viewpoint that leaves everyone speechless. Accommodation and dinner in Hof.

It’s time to get out of our comfort zones! There aren’t many places in the world, like Vatnajökull glacier, where you can enjoy different activities throughout the whole year. This unique place is a playground for nature and winter sports lovers! We’ll start the excursion by approaching the glacier, adjusting our crampons and hike to point where our local guide will prepare us for the unforgettable ice climbing activity*. We will use the technical axes and climb the ¨ancient¨ ice, always with the security of a string tied to us. We’ll have time to admire the beauty of the glacier with its slopes before the end. Accommodation and dinner in Hof.

*Activity included, but not obligatory.

Time to focus again on the hidden corners of highlands. We’ll need to stock up our supplies for the next few days in the last small population before we’ll enter the isolated part of the island. On the way we will enjoy several contrasts of colours and landscapes that the ice and fire have shaped; the culmination cames to us almost at the end of the day, when we’ll make a visit to the Maelifell mountain and the Mýrdalsjökull glacier. Our accommodation of today is a small mountain hut in an unbeatable environment. Dinner at the hut.

Our accommodation was built at the foot of another great volcanic mountain, Strútur; that gave name to our shelter. The highlight of this day is to reach this summit, following a trail with spectacular and serene landscapes.  The previous day viewpoints will change their elevation – we’ll admire Maelifell and the Mýrdalsjökull glacier from above. We will continue the day with our 4x4s to go a little further into the highlands and reach our accommodation which is also the base of the Vatnajökull National Park. Dinner in the accommodation.

The next day of the trip we will enjoy visiting a hidden pearl in the deep highlands: Langisjór, a mountain lake formed between two ridges. Once there, we’ll ascend the Sveinstindur mountain, that offers the best views of the lake and the glacier Vatnajökull in the background. But our day doesn’t end here! We still have to make it to Landmannalaugar, the most well-known highland spot. On our way, we’ll visit the Fjallabak Nature Reserve. Dinner and accommodation in the Landmannalaugar hut.

Our last day in the highlands will be dedicated to the Landmannalaugar area. with its colourful mountains and long and accessible trails. Volcanoes like Bláhnjúkur or Brennisteinsalda will be our goals. This area is also known for its fumaroles, lava fields and thermal springs, making it an idyllic place for hiking. On our way to today’s accommodation, there are still places left to visit that escape our imagination! Accommodation and dinner in a cosy guesthouse.

The last day on the route, but no less promising. We’ll head to the area of the Golden Circle, but instead of visiting the famous spots, we’ll stop by the Hvítá River, the same one through which the famous Gullfoss waterfall passes. In this powerful river, our last, rad activity awaits – rafting, a unique experience to both, connect with the Icelandic nature and get the last, true taste of this adventurous trip. Once the activity is over, we will head to the capital, Reykjavík, where we’ll have time to rest and stroll around. Free afternoon and night in Reykjavík (dinner not included).

Time to say goodbye to Iceland! After breakfast in bed, we will take you to Keflavík international airport so you can start your journey back home. See you in the next adventure!
