YOU ARE THE 5TH ELEMENT OF OUR TRIPS:

We promote sustainable and responsible tourism!

From 5elemenTravel we want to give every traveller the opportunity to get involved and support the country they will discover. In the case of Iceland, we want to encourage and support the CarbFix project, where they work to minimalize the climate change and study how to reduce the effects of CO2 emissions, capturing greenhouse gases in rocks. Travelling with us you will also offset a big part of the trip’s (flight and car) carbon emission through a donation for tree planting. In addition, from each traveller, a part will be donated to the Icelandic rescue team of volunteers ICE-SAR and their projects, e.g. https://safetravel.is/.

Apart from the projects, while executing the trips, we are also:

  • working with local suppliers and guides
  • respecting the driving rules, especially on the delicate interior part
  • informing about and respecting the borders set in the touristic areas
  • never working with single-use tools and materials
  • drinking Icelandic, completely healthy, tap or stream water, and reducing the use of plastic

DAY 1: AIRPORT OF THE ORIGIN-KEFLAVÍK

Our guide will welcome you and pick you up at Keflavik airport. With our 4×4 vehicle, we will head to our accommodation in the Keflavík area.

DAY 2: KEFLAVÍK-GOLDEN CIRCLE

Our first full day of exploring Iceland! Today it is time to visit the famous Golden Circle, a set of 3 visits on the geology and history that make up one of the most visited places in Iceland. This visit is the best way to start contextualizing and understanding this country. Thingvellir, Geysir and the Gullfoss waterfall will be our stops. At the end of the day, we will head to our lodging in Laugarvatn, not before going through the complex of thermal springs that will help us to start the journey very relaxed. Accommodation and dinner in the Laugarvatn area.

DAY 3: GOLDEN CIRCLE-KERLINGARFJÖLL

On our next day, we will enter into the highlands of Iceland. The interior is characterised by complete depopulation, with a large presence of glaciers, volcanoes and lava deserts. This combination makes it a unique place. Our destination is the mountains of Kerlingarfjöll. An active, geothermal area where besides enjoying our trekking, we will take a bath in the natural thermal waters. Accommodation and dinner in the mountain hut of Kerlingarfjöll.

DAY 4: KERLINGARFJÖLL-SELFOSS

We start the day with a trekking in the colourful mountains area. An unusual landscape: slopes with different orange and red colours, volcanic hot springs and rivulets and some permanent snow on the peaks. Once the trekking is over, a thermal bath will help us recover and encounter this place even more. We leave the highlands to head south, to unique glamping, where we will have the pleasure to rest in spacious, private and modern tents after this packed day. Accommodation and dinner in the tents near Selfoss.

DAY 5: SELFOSS-THAGKIL

Our fifth day of the travel will tour the famous South, the area of Iceland with more famous landscapes, such as the Seljalandsfoss waterfall, Skogafoss, Reynisfjara (basalt beach) and the famous volcano, because of its eruption in 2010′, Eyjafjallajökull. Our group will not be left alone with the typical visits from the area, the day will reveal many other waterfalls and hidden gems that we will walk next to and observe while hiking near. At the end of the day, we will enter the heart of Thakgil, a magical place where we will spend the night. Accommodation and dinner in the huts of Thakgil.

DAY 6: THAGKIL-HOF

First thing in the morning we will trek through the area where we have slept to discover one of the hidden gems of this place. We will then head to the largest glacier in Europe, for another trek on ice and, for those who dare, you can try abseiling under the control of our guide. We will end the day in Iceland’s most visited and famous canyon, formed by an ancient and feared volcano. Our accommodation and dinner will be in the southeastern part of the island.

DAY 7: HOF

We return to the glacier again, but this time we switch from yesterday’s crampons and ice axe to the canoe. The main activity today is a kayak tour among the icebergs and under the ice caves. Afterwards, we will take another trek to one of the most beautiful and not yet well-known canyons hidden between the tongues of the glaciers. For the last visit of the day, we cannot miss the unique lake Jökulsárlón, the glacier lagoon and the diamond beach formed by the constant movements of the glacier and the waves of the ocean. Overnight stay and dinner in the south-eastern part of the island.

DAY 8: HOF-LANDMANNALAUGAR

If you were stunned by the interior of Iceland at the beginning of the trip… it’s time to come back! This time we’ll enter the most famous area of the highlands: Landmannalaugar. In this part prepare yourself for a little bit of everything: a 4×4 adventurous route through rivers and lava fields to reach a volcanic area. In our refuge today we have numerous trekkings to do and thermal waters to take a bath in unforgettable surroundings with beautiful mountainous landscapes. Accommodation and dinner in the hut of Landmannalaugar.

DAY 9: LANDMANNALAUGAR-REYKJAVÍK

Last day of an incredible adventure, but not the least spectacular. Leaving the highlands by another magnificent route in 4×4, we will visit the most spectacular waterfall of the entire journey. Once in Reykjavik we will make a tour around the city and have the evening and night off to enjoy the city. Accommodation in the hotel in the centre of Reykjavík.

DAY 10: REYKJAVÍK-KEFLAVÍK-AIRPORT OF THE ORIGIN

Time to say goodbye to Iceland! After breakfast, you will spend extra time in the capital or head directly to the airport of Keflavík. We hope to see you again soon :).
