8 days / 7 nights
A unique adventure, inspired by the ¨Journey to the centre of the Earth¨ of Jules Verne, in which you’ll not only climb the summit of the mythical Snæfellsjökull glacier but also reach the most remote part of Iceland – Westfjords, the best place to disconnect, observe the wildlife and… learn or practise cross-country skis in the area of Ísafjörður, ¨capital¨of Westfjords! The Northwest is well known for majestic mountains and fjords that seem likes gates to the outer world. The journey passes through the Snæfellsnes peninsula with emblematic Kirkjufell mountain, glacier-capped volcano Snæfellsjökull, countless waterfalls such as Dynjandi and the not so well-known part of Iceland – Westfjords.
This trip is pure experience and adventure thanks to some activities that will make your heart beat faster, but if you also add hidden, natural thermal pools throughout the journey, trekkings to waterfalls, panoramic viewpoints and charming, private accommodations, this Easter runaway really has it all!

YOU ARE THE 5TH ELEMENT OF OUR TRIPS:
We promote sustainable and responsible tourism!
From 5elemenTravel we want to give every traveller the opportunity to get involved and support the country they will discover. In the case of Iceland, we want to encourage and support the CarbFix project, where they work to minimalize the climate change and study how to reduce the effects of CO2 emissions, capturing greenhouse gases in rocks. Travelling with us you will also offset a big part of the trip’s (flight and car) carbon emission through a donation for tree planting. In addition, from each traveller, a part will be donated to the Icelandic rescue team of volunteers ICE-SAR and their projects, e.g. https://safetravel.is/.
Apart from the projects, while executing the trips, we are also:
- working with local suppliers and guides
- respecting the driving rules, especially on the delicate interior part
- informing about and respecting the borders set in the touristic areas
- never working with single-use tools and materials
- drinking Icelandic, completely healthy, tap or stream water, and reducing the use of plastic

DAY 1: AIRPORT OF THE ORIGIN-KEFLAVÍK
Our guide will welcome you and pick you up at Keflavik airport and take you to our first hotel accommodation. Accommodation in the Keflavík area.
DAY 2: KEFLAVÍK-SNÆFELLSNES PENINSULA
The day starts with a meeting with the guide who’ll explain in detail the tempo, characteristics and important aspects of the trip. We´ll start our route on the way to the Barnafossar and Hraunfossar waterfalls. The journey passes towards the Snæfellsnes peninsula, among lava fields, moss and pseudocraters. The imposing Snæfellsjökull is becoming more visible – it’s a volcano covered by a glacier through which, according to Jules Verne in his novel “Journey to the centre of the Earth”, it’s possible to access the centre of our planet. Accommodation and dinner in the picturesque town of Arnarstapi.
DAY 3: SNÆFELLSNES
Today it’s about exploring! Waking up early in the morning, we’ll arrive at the base of the Snæfellsjökull volcano with the local guides, where we will equip ourselves with the necessary material to ascent to the top of the legendary glacier/volcano. This excursion will take us the whole day and will allow us to reach the top of a volcano covered by a glacier at 1450m high and less than 10km in a straight line with the Atlantic sea. At the end of the day, we’ll return to the same accommodation where we will regain strength. Dinner and accommodation in Arnarstapi.
DAY 4: SNÆFELLSNES-FLÓKALUNDUR (Westfjords)
This time we’ll head to the north of the peninsula to visit the famous Kirkjufell mountain, pseudocraters that can be entered, recondite waterfalls and small fishing villages. In the afternoon we will take the ferry and go to the Westfjords. Before finishing the day at the guesthouse, we will visit a natural hot spring, located by the seaside. Accommodation and dinner in the town of Flókalundur.
DAY 5: FLÓKALUNDUR-ÍSAFJÖRÐUR (Westfjords)
Our first day in the remote fjords begins with visits to the stunning beaches, cliffs and fjords. On the way to our next town, we will stop to see one of the most beautiful waterfalls in the full country: Dynjandi. At the end of the day, we’ll arrive at the fjord of the town Ísafjörður, which is also the capital of the Northwest fjords, with a rich, fishing tradition and surrounded by impressive mountains. Accommodation and dinner at a hotel in the town of Ísafjörður.
DAY 6: ÍSAFJÖRÐUR-HOLMAVÍK
Ísafjörður is also known among Icelanders for being a national ski destination. This journey is planned in a way that will allow us to enjoy the ¨Aldrei fór ég suður¨ (¨I never went south¨) music festival, that’s carried out annually alongside with ¨Skíðavikan¨ (Skii week). Thanks to those Ísafjörður, which through the year is a relatively calm town, becomes a must-be destination during the Easter time, and we also couldn’t miss staying there! We will undertake a ski touring activity with the local guides, admiring the valley and the fjords and later in the afternoon, come back to the town to enjoy the music festival (as the day before). Accommodation and dinner in Hólmavik.
DAY 7: HOLMAVÍK-REYKJAVÍK
It’s time to go back to the island’s capital, but before that, if the weather conditions allow, we will make carry out a snowshoe excursion, very close to the Langjökull glacier. Our goal – natural hot springs, hidden in a canyon… The best way to warm up after ¨cold¨ excursions! Accommodation in a sustainable, eco-hotel in the city of Reykjavík!
DAY 8: REYKJAVÍK – AIRPORT OF THE ORIGIN
Time to say goodbye to Iceland! After breakfast, you will spend extra time in the capital or head directly to the airport of Keflavík. We hope to see you again soon :).
